Defence and Emergency Services Cricket Gala Day

By Ryan Malcolm

Help me make it meaningful

Mental illness doesn’t discriminate – it affects 1 in 5 Australians every year with symptoms like depression and anxiety. The impact can be devastating, not only for those living with it, but for those around them.

Emergency services crews spend a significant amount of time responding to matters involving individuals experiencing mental health issues, and understand full well the impact that these conditions can have on the community.

Unfortunately, the nature of duties undertaken by Police Officers, Ambulance Officers, Firefighters and Defence Force Personnel often exposes these public servants to traumatic scenes. The prevalence of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other mental injuries are extremely high between these organisations.

The field of mental health is one which has only relatively recently been given significant attention and the work to understand how best to prevent and treat mental health conditions is ongoing. For this reason, it is of great importance that agencies like the Black Dog Institute are supported to facilitate improved outcomes in the field of mental health moving forward.

The NSW Police Cricket Club is co-ordinating this event, which will be held at Mona Park, Auburn from 9am on the 25th of September 2024. Teams from the Australian Army, NSW Ambulance, NSW Fire and Rescue and the NSW Police will be competing in a series of 10 over cricket matches to raise funds and awareness for the Black Dog Institute.

Help us create a meaningful moment for mental health, all for a great cause.
